一次審査用課題英文

Once there was a boy who always exaggerated. He tried to break his habit, but nothing would work.
At last he had a plan. He told his sister: “The next time you hear me telling too big a lie, just step on my toe. That will remind me to stop exaggerating.”
That same day, the boy was telling friends about his trip to Europe. He began to tell about a building he saw there.
“It was a mile long and half a mile high,” said the boy.
“My!” said one of his friends. “And how wide was that building?”
But just then the boy felt his toe being stepped on. He realized he had been stretching things a bit. So to make up for it, he said, “How wide? Ohhhh, only about twelve inches.”
